Speakerphone conversations

Got into a big debate and I need to turn to my friends and other family and YOU. So it's in regards to the use of speakerphone with or without the individual knowing they are on speakerphone. The argument against using it without the person knowing is that anyone else in the room could hear what is being said and may be taken a different way if they had known they were on speakerphone. The argument for using it without the person knowing is what they have to say should, in most cases, not be any different whether people are listening or not.
