Tether is by far the most popular stablecoin issuer in the cryptosphere, with a market cap of more than $82 billion. The company maintains that its USDT cryptocurrency is backed 100% by fiat reserves, although the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a US regulator, ruled last year that its cash reserves had been mixed with "unsecured receivables and non-fiat assets" between 2016 and 2019. Tether was fined $41 million by the regulator but denied any wrongdoing. Regarding market analysis, crypto exchange Bitfinex stated that long-term indicators still suggest strength in the crypto market. Still, shorter-term views show the latter stages of a bear market, as per CoinDesk. Following this pattern, PlanB said the price of bitcoin will likely be above $32,000 in 2024, which is the year of the next BTC halving. On a much longer basis, the model puts the price of bitcoin between $100,000 and $1 million by 2025.
