Not sure how old this photo is, but it is photographic evidence that boys swam completely naked in the presence of clothed girls. In this photo, the boy stands there stark naked in the presence of three suited girls. He doesn't seem to mind being nude in front of them, nor do they seem to object to him standing inches away from them wearing his birthday suit!

It didn't matter that girls were there. The boys still swam without a stitch of clothing on. I'm sure that some exhibitionist boys secretly enjoyed this!

In the 1960s and 70s, speedos were the primary swimwear of ocean lifeguards and experienced swimmers. However, in rough surf, you could easily lose your speedos. Many ocean lifeguards and male swimmers would take off their speedos and wear them around their neck, because they were less likely to lose them in the surf.

Today at nude or clothing optional beaches, the proportion of naked males is much higher than naked females. But in other environments where nudity is not authorized, a male could be arrested for stripping nude with a female being the complainant.
Many claim that these co-ed vintage photos showing both sexes are photo-shopped. However, a number of men that swam competitively in school, said that females were present as spectators during swim meets and they continued to swim naked.
