For me until the end of Year 4 indoor PE was done in my vest, underpants and bare feet. We simply removed our clothes in the cloakroom and walked into the multi purpose hall.

Primary was tee and shorts and black plimsolls or bare feet.

At that age we were mostly still dressed by our mother. But if we just so happen not to have a vest then it was simple. Go topless boys and girls.

same for me as a kid---barefoot in the multi-purpose hall, floor was filthy
