Clothing and Modesty for Christian Women

Biblical modesty

On the one hand, the passage does state that Adam and Eve hid because they were naked. Taken at face value, people view that as being evidence that nudity should be covered up. But like you rightly point out, awayness, nudity between spouses and God has never been viewed as wrong or immoral, so it seems that the most plausible explanation is that Adam and Eve were ashamed of their sin. They were ashamed to have even realized that they were naked, which led them to hide away completely despite having made coverings for themselves.

As for the evidence that they made aprons or loincloths, I think it's possible that those were simply the easiest and most basic types of coverings that they could fashion in the garden. After all, upon banishing them from the garden, God gave them "tunics made from skin" because, presumably, Adam and Eve's coverings were not very good.

On a side note, it's also amusing when people, especially non-Christians, cherry-pick passages from the Bible to justify their views on things such as nudity. Not only are they usually wrong about what they're reading, but they ignore everything else that's quite clear if it doesn't fit their agenda. For example, in Genesis 3:16 God tells Eve "Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” I don't think most modern women, including Christians, even remember that this passage exists. And if they see it, they put their blinders on and ignore it.
