My favorite composer is, strangely enough, not the one I would consider the best. The best is Mozart, in my opinion, however, as a pianist, I love Schumann's pieces. I love how he can write a song on a theme, like "Wild Rider" or "Norse Song."
A side note: I've concluded that Schumann must have had rather large hands (a blessing that has missed me), because he commonly includes ninths or larger intervals in his music.
