Jobs and the Economy

I'd like to know what people think about the state of the economy and the jobs policy of this administration DEFINITIONS: Offshoring - The sending of a job to a low-wage country where people earn less money
What is your age group (some questions will be different for different ages)?
Under 18
18-22
22-35
35-59
60 or older
Regardless of who may or may not be responsible, do you think the economy is headed in the right direction?
Yes
No
Don't know
What do you think is the most important factor in the economy?
Job growth/creation
Stock market value
Interest rates
Consumer spending
Other

(For those 22 and over, or currently working full-time): Are you concerned that your job may be offshored?
It's already happened
Very concerned

A little concerned
Not worried at all

Many high-tech workers are losing their jobs because they are being replaced with H1-B and L1 visas. These are people who are not U.S. citizens that companies import from low-wage countries and earn less money. What do you think of this practice? Check all that apply.
Hey, it's the American Dream, right?
Fine by me, as long as they earn the job based on merit.
It's demeaning to U.S. workers.
It's demeaning to the foreign workers because they're being exploited.
It's bad for our economy and it should be greatly restricted and regulated.
It's ruining our economy and should be made illegal.
In the news, you've probably heard about offshoring. Offshoring is a practice whereby a company will send its jobs overseas and hire third-world workers because the economy there is so poor that workers earn next-to-nothing. Your thoughts (check all that apply)
Wow, I wish I thought of that, it'll save us a bundle!
Not the best idea, but we need to be concerned about the economies of other countries because it affects the global economy.
We need to help other countries, but such practices have to be rigidly monitored and controlled so they don't affect our own workers.
We need to help other countries, but there has to be a better way.
It worries me when there are so many out of work people in the U.S.
Screw the global economy. Americans need jobs NOW!
Ok, so where's our share of the savings? The companies just do it to make themselves richer.
We have a job crisis in this country. American jobs must go to Americans first.
What do you think will be the long-term effects of worker replacement and off-shoring? (check all that apply)
It will stabalize the world economy and bring peace and freedom to all.
It will help the world economy, but bring down America in the process.
It will hurt the world economy. If the other nations workers make so little money, how are they going to buy American products?
It'll bring America down, and the rest of the world with us.
If we keep offshoring all our work, America will become a third-world country.
Other (please comment)
(American citizens only - Be honest, this is anonymous: You come across a random foreigner from India or China, etc. Your reaction...
Welcome to America, best of luck to you!
I applaud his effort to better his life, but I'm slightly concerned about the influx of foreigners.
Alright, who's job did YOU steal?
I like you, but America is closed. Please try later when our economy is improved.
Get OUT!!
I'm racist anyway.
Your overall opinion on immigration:
It's how we were built. The more the merrier.
Great under normal circumstances, but we need to get it under control until our economy improves.
I'm indifferent. They don't seem to harm us.
We're letting too many people in, we're starting to get overcrowded.
It must be halted temporarily for ecconomic and national security purposes.
This Land is My Land, It Is Not Your Land...
The Bush administration says the economy is just fine. Do you believe them?
Sure, why not?
A little skeptical.
Don't know.
Yeah right, these are the same people who told us there were weapons of mass destruction.
They're screwing us and lying about it.
Do you believe that it is the government's responsiblity to protect its citizens' interests first and foremost, even if it may hurt businesses.
Yes. The working Americans have no one to speak up for them.
You have to protect BOTH interests through neutral watchdog groups.
No, it's a capitalist economy. Everyone for themselves.
How much do you agree with the following statement: The U.S. must develop protectionist laws which make it illegal to offshore jobs, put high tariffs on foreign labor to make it price-competitive with U.S. labor, and mandate that all jobs MUST go to Americans.
Strongly agree.
Agree.
Neutral.
Disagree.
Strongly disagree.
Has this poll affected your view on the world economy, or made you think more about it?
I've been hot on this issue from the beginning.
I care more about it now.
I care less about it now.
Never cared then, don't care now.
