What do you think about tire to energy facilities?

Many cement kilns, paper mills, and some energy generating plants burn scrap tires for energy (often referred to as Tire Derived Fuel). These facilites often fall prey to public outcry against burning tires. What is your opinion?
How would you react to finding out that a company is either currently implementing a tire-to-energy facility or is planning to implent one in the future?
I would be completely fine with that.
I don't know, I think I'd want to know more about this tire burning thing.
