I have the opportunity to trade straight-up my 1999 Ford Crown Victoria LX, which has been a really great car for me, for a used 2000 Volvo S80 sedan. I am hopelessly torn...help me decide! Here are the candidates (actual colors shown):
Ford Crown Victoria LX: America's best bang for the buck
4.6L 8 cylinder, 190-200 horses, automatic trans
18 city, 25 hwy mpg (87 octane)
87,000 miles
Cheap, reliable, and big! Low maintenance costs.
basic cloth seats
fair market value $6,000
Volvo S80 sedan: did you know Volvo is owned by Ford Motor Co.?
2.9L 6 cylinder, 190-200 horses, automatic trans
18 city, 26 hwy mpg (92 octane)
55,000 miles
Luxurious, refined, and superior handling. Higher maintenance costs but still ok.
leather!
fmv $14,000 (but is lease-to-own)
As you can see, the choice is anything but easy. While the Volvo appears to be the better choice on paper, I do like my "rig" that I bought after my summer of highly lucrative web development and which I've been driving for four years. The Crown Victoria is the perfect highway car and is a lot of car for the money. It has power, a big engine, and a lot of mass. I love it. However, the Volvo is significantly more refined and has much better style. Not to mention the ladies love it a lot more than my current old man's car. The Volvo is more expensive in maintenance, repairs, and gasoline costs. The biggest advantage of the Ford is that I already own it free and clear, while there is a significant balance remaining on the Volvo, which is lease-to-own (thus the straight-up trade) Please, help me!!!!!!
