Choice of slipper or detention

When I was in the third year at school, I and another boy were caught out of bounds during lunchtime. We were given the choice of an hour after school detention or 4 whacks of the slipper. I'd never had the slipper and I chose detention. My friend chose the slipper. What would you have done?
