Optional School Uniform

I am starting a new school in the new year and my parents want me to wear the optional school blazer. I don’t want to wear it and said that because its optional I get to say whether I wear it or not, but they say it is up to them. I have a friend who goes to the school and she said only about 5 people in my year wear one. What are your views on optional school uniform?
