getting injections in arm or in butt

Hi, my name is Theresa and I am 22 years old. I recieved many intramuscular shots in my life. Some of them went in my arm, some of them in my butt. For quite some time I tried to find out on which reasons this depends, but I didn't get a good explanation yet. I also know many people who prefer getting an injection into the arm and some who prefer getting it in the butt. This might depend on the sex, I think women tend to prefer the arm.
