Girl coaching boys

I am Sarifina D'Italia. During the summer, my niece Thersea found that one of the teams in the 8/9 yo old boys league didn't have a coach and the position had been posted for about two weeks and nobody signed up. The only requirements named were that applicants must have a driver's license, have passed a first aid course, and be able to spend 2 hours a week for practice and coach two games a week. She fit all the requirements and turned in her application. On the closing of applications, she went to the recreation department to check the postings and found that the league mysteriously shrunk from 8 to 7 teams and she was not one of the coaches. They said it was financial and there was room on the other teams for the boys, but clearly it was because she was a girl. Off the record the woman on the recreation commission said she wasn't chosen beacuse the boys would be naked in the lockerroom, but she had already babysat four of the nine boys and had given them baths. No parents had complained. She was embarrassed by not getting it. I just don't understand it. In Europe and Japan and China, it is commonplace for opposite sex coaches to be in the youth lockerrooms and showers. Some teams are coed. Some lockerrooms have parents in them. What's wrong with this country?? I woud appreciate if you would take my poll and leave a message if you want or even email me direct at sarafinaditalia@hushmail.com if you have good thoughts.
