This is meant as a fantasy scenario. Suppose that at the time of your death you could choose the year of your life that you had enjoyed most, and re-live it again and again for all eternity. You would not be aware of re-living your past because after each "re-run", your memory would be wiped and you would just go back the first day of that year (say, January 1st 1981) with the same memories you had at the start of that year the first time around. You would not be able to change anything.
Imagine that the only alternative was annihilation, so you would have no afterlife at all, but just stay dead. For ever.
