Summer Clothes

It is almost summer again and I'm a little not sure what to do if anything. I took my kids shopping for summer clothes and my teenage daughters all got shorts and swim suits and sandals and stuff like that. My 12 year old son refuses to wear anything like that. He says shorts and sandals are for girls and that guys don't wear such things. His sisters and other family members said I should just buy them and make him wear the clothes that are cooler for summer. He won't even take his shirt off outside. He is very pale from keeping covered up all the time. He doesn't have a male influence in his life, so that he can see that men do wear shorts and sandals. When I point out the other boys wearing these things he says that they must be girlish. What should I do.I told him if you all agree with him then he gets his way but if not then we go by your results.
