Wife or Child

Gentleman, your house is on fire and you have the option to save either your wife or your only child; who do you choose? This is obviously hypothetical, and in the hypothetical spirit let's say that the circumstances for each individual (the wife and child) are completely equal - i.e. they're an equal distance apart, equal amount of fire / smoke around them etc.
