If you agree that doing away with pensions was a bad Idea, why do you think it is a bad idea?

The stock market is broken in that it is no longer a vehicle for long term investment but just for day traders

One cannot realistically plan your retirement date as you don't know what income you will receive, whereas with a pension you know if you worked X years you would receive Y dollars

Most people do not have the time or skill to invest wisely

The stock market is too stressful

Competing legitimate demands for money can short circuit people's saving plan

Often a company match is its own stock

Looking over the first decade of the 21st Century, If you invested in the market at the start, you would have shown no growth by the end of the decade. Given that fact what does that tell you about the market?

Buy and hold doesn't work anymore

Only day traders can make money in stocks

Only the rich with their inside information can make money in stocks

Still what other option do we have?
