Blood Brother Ceremony Risks

I have, in the past, given serious thought to becoming blood brothers with someone. However, I do not know if this would cause any serious risks. I have heard that mingling your blood with another person is an excellent way to spread disease, so I need to know if there are tests that we should both perform first, or not, or if it is simply to dangerous altogether.
