That fluoride is added to the public water supply in most states to prevent tooth decay. There is no indication fluoride decreases tooth decay (tooth decay was in a pattern of decrease from brushing which the addition of fluoride did not affect). Fluoride is shown in over 24 studies to to cause a decrease in intelligence - other studies show a significant concern for it's cause of a significant number of other important health problems.
