Yes, I do consider animal cruelty to be an issue in Australia and I do think the issue needs more attention

No, I think animal cruelty is not an issue or it is being well managed in Australia

Maybe, I am not sure because I haven't taken notice of the animal abuse statistics or news broadcasts or I don't particularly care about the welfare of animals

Do you think there is enough being done to prevent animal cruelty through legislation, which in Queensland is the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 (QLD)?

Yes, I feel that there is enough being done on a legislative level

No, I feel that there is not enough being done on a legislative level

Maybe, I am uncertain because I am not familiar with legislations that relate to animal cruelty

There has been previous cases were people who have committed heinous crimes agains t animals such as torture then committed similar crimes on humans. Do you think that there is a link between animal cruelty and violent crime?

Yes, I do think that there is a strong link between serious animal cruelty and violent crime (on humans)

No, I see no link whatsoever between animal cruelty and violent crime (on humans)

I am uncertain, due to the seriousness of the question I find it hard to answer it with a yes or no answer

What would you personally recommend governments to implement to either improve treatment of animals or to keep the treatment of animals being well managed in our society?

Increased funding in the animal welfare system - funding

Educating the public about the seriousness of animal cruelty - education

Harsher penalties eg. fines and jail terms- deterrence

Locking up the offenders for prolonged periods - incarceration

Mandatory counselling - rehabilitation

Reinforcing what the offenders have done by inflicting what they had done to the animal on themselves on a lesser level - retribution (extreme)
