Transgender kids vs Co-ed Locker Rooms

The state of California recently passed a law that stated that a child can choose which restroom or locker room to go to based on whether he or she sees himself/herself as male or female. Therefore, a child who is physically male can choose to go in the female restroom if he sees himself as female - and vice versa. This pertains to restrooms, locker rooms and even sports teams. I have not seen a definition of how they determine whether a child is truly transgender or simply curious. This poll isn't to debate the validity of Transgender children or adults. It's to investigate the possible implications of the policy on modesty standards among children. For convenience sake, male pronouns are used for children with male anatomy and female pronouns are used for children with female anatomy.

I have not seen a rule as to how a child is determined to be transgenered. It appears that the only definition is how the child is feeling today. How should a child be characterized as transgender and therefore permitted to use the opposite sex facilities?
A professional psychologist or counselor must certify that a child sees himself or herself as transgener
The parent or guardian must make the decision prior to the school year beginning
The child must make the decision prior to the school year beginning
The teacher must make the decision at the beginning of the school year based on his or her impression of the child
This is a delicate issue that can only be decided by the student on a day to day basis. The student should make the decision based on his or her feelings on that specific day.
Transgender is not an issue. Children should use the facilities based on their physical anatomy, not their psychological gender.

No. She should use the toilet.
If she wants to use the urinal, she may.
Yes. If she feels that she is a boy, she should use the urinal just as a boy would even if this means removing her clothing so they do not get wet.
If a transgender boy needs to dress out for PE in the girls' locker room, should any accommodations be made?
No. He should change clothes with all the girls.
Yes. Girls should not be in the locker room when he is changing and he should not be in the locker room when the girls are changing.

As I understand it, transgender does not necessarily mean homosexual. What should be done if a transgender boy becomes visibly excited while changing or showering with the girls.
He should be removed, since this proves he is not truly a transgendered boy.
It should simply be ignored. All boys have this occur periodically.
He should be given a private place to relieve himself.
He should relieve himself in the locker room in front of the girls.
What should be done if a boy or group of boys become visibly excited while a transgender girl showers with them?
The transgendered girl should be told to leave
It should just be ignored, since this is natural and should be expected when a girl is showering with a group of boys.
The boys should be required to go somewhere private to relieve themselves
The boys should relieve themselves in the locker room even though the girl is present. This is part of being a boy.
If it is up to the individual on a daily basis to determine if he or she is transgender and can therefore use the opposite sex facilities, how likely do you think it will be that a girl will pretend to be transgender so that she can go in the boys locker room?
Being transgender is difficult and no one would pretend to be so just to see someone nude.
10% of girls would do so
25% of girls would do so
50% of girls would do so
75% of girls would do so
Virtually all girls would do so

Are you kidding. Hormone driven boy has a chance to shower with nude girls. All boys would choose to do so
One of the reasons this law was implemented in California was to reduce bullying by allowing transgender students to use the facility they felt most comfortable using. Since the very act of making that choice puts the child in the spotlight, would you favor having fully co-ed restrooms, locker rooms, and showers so that everyone is on an equal footing and to reduce the chance of transgender children being bullied?
No. The genders should be separated.
Yes. That makes sense.
If you believe that students would routinely pretend to be transgender in order to visit the other gender's locker room, would you be in favor of having fully co-ed facilities since that's essentially what would be happening anyway?
No. Punish those students who misuse the system
Yes. Students will be doing it anyway, so the facilities may as well be co-ed.
What would you tell your daughter if she came home from school and told you that a transgender boy was going to be showering with her?
What would you tell your son if he came home from school and told you that a transgender girl was going to be showering with him?
What would you tell your children if they informed you that all locker room facilities including restrooms and showers would be co-ed?
