Should public schools cancel on account of cold weather alone?

Okc schools recently adopted a new policy of cancelling school when the air temp is below 10 F or windchill below 5 F. Consider these facts. 1) We never cancelled school on account of cold weather & yes, we had to wait on the bus & walk to school too. 2) We have some winters where we have enough snow cancellations that the kids already have to go a week longer before summer break. 3) Do they cancel school in Northern states or Canada for cold weather? 4) Isn't it the parents responsibility to send their kids to school dressed for cold weather? 5) Isn't it more likely a kid is going to get ran over walking to school during warm weather than freeze to death? 6) Won't the kids turn up the heat & run up your heating bill while you are at work, & turn it back down before you get home? 7) If parents can't be trusted to dress their kids in thermal underwear, heavy coats, gloves, & stocking cap, don't we need state legislation requiring them to?
