should I let my son wear one shoe

I have a 12 year old son that has lost his right shoes 7 times in two months I've grounded him I've talked to him I've asked him how he keeps losing is right shoes he tells me he just takes it off and sometimes forgets to put it back on. the other kids steal it his mom said this morning when he got up and got dressed for school he put on his socks and his left shoe and refused to wear his right shoe so she let him go to school with one shoe. she did make him wear two socks on his right foot I'm just looking for opinions or ideas. other than this problem he's the perfect kids good grades does his chores he is never a problem I took him to the doctor to get his foot checked to make sure everything was okay with it the doctor says nothing wrong he says it doesn't hurt he just likes to wear shoe
