The most obvious target group is strict Muslima's, who not only wear enveloping and vision-limiting clothes (burqa), but might also wear gags, hobbles to keep their stride modest, etc (anything to help them be Awrah). Conservative Christians consider masturbation a sin, and women should be virgin when entering marriage, so they try to keep teenagers from having sex and even masturbating, esp. at night, with all sorts of constructions.
For culture I'm thinking about the Arab world with harems, where, if you can believe movies and such, women can be locked up and might wear chains, chastity belts, etc. I'm not sure if they are still in practice or not, so I'm interested to hear about it. Let's call it cultural if people around you of the same background would find the use of such restraints acceptable, and not because they are fashionable.
I'm using restraints in a broad sense; basically anything that physically hampers the wearer, so including clothing that limits the wearer in some way.
This poll is only for situations where the restraints that are used because of religion or culture, so not for bondage enthusiasts who role-play such scenario's or use e.g. a burqa purely for its restrictive properties. But it is OK to fill it in if the original reason is religious or cultural, but the subject and/or the caretaker has developed a liking/fetish for the bondage aspects.
Both wearers, also called subjects below, and caretakers can fill in this poll from their perspective.
