School Detention

I live in the UK and our school has just began an after school detention policy. A code of coduct book has been published and depending on the severity of any misdemeanors, we can now get a 2 hour detention after school on a Friday. Within two weeks of the start of the is policy, I have now had my first detention, but I think this has been a waste of time, and is a worn out practice.
