Should holocaust denial be protected speech?

Some courts in the U.S. have ruled that "holocaust denial" is protected speech under the U.S. bill of rights. Many Americans feel that this is not an "opinion," which would be protected, but an "untruth" which would not be protected.
Which statement best reflects what you think on this matter?
This is an opinion, and should be proctected.
