If you ever wonder why there are so many horrible diseases out there it is because of overpopulation. And once a disease is cured a new one pops up. Just look at the scare over Bird Flu. Disease is a way nature controls human population. If the population continues to increase then you can be sure we will see an epidemic of some sort (Whether it be Bird Flu or something else). Nature will do what it needs to balance itself out. And living in a wealthy, modernized, western country won't matter.
The problem is people and not the dog. Even you said the key phrase, which is that dogs, such as Pitbulls are BRED to be aggressive. Through proper breeding the aggression can be bred out of any breed of dog. Since too many people want the Pitbull for their aggressive qualities (esp. for fighting), many Pitbull attacks have occured. If decent breeders were in control the aggression could be bred out of Pitbulls within a few years and Pitbull attacks would greatly decrease. As I said from the beginning, people are at fault, not the dog.
