I got a motto tattooed on my hip when I turned 18.
The school I teach at requires students to take their shoes off before entering the library to keep them from wearing out the carpets or tracking dirt in. On cooler mornings, you can see a line of shoes outside the door to the library building.
I teach in a private high school where students aren't allowed to wear street shoes in the classroom building, and many prefer to go barefoot. Teachers are allowed to wear shoes, but I prefer teaching barefoot, and I think it improves the rapport between me and my students.
I've noticed a similar trend. I went to school in New York, and tattoos were uncommon except occasionally for seniors after they had turned 18. Now I teach at a private high school in Florida, and tattoos are quite common among juniors and seniors.
I grew up in a family that avoided nudity, although looking back I can see that I had a desire to go around nude that I didn't fully understand as a child. In college, I began dating a nudist and adopted the nudist lifestyle. Now I live with my partner in a nudist community and feel that the kids in our community are more well adjusted than I was at that age.
