we were never required to wear them for gym class, but my dad got me one anyway. From watching other guys in the locker room, I knew how to wear it.
Even though we were not 'required' to wear them, the coach would occasionaly pull guys aside with 'larger' endowments and suggest they try wearing one.

I don't mind people being able to see my underwear. If they want to look, they are entitled. I look at other guys hoping to catch a glimpse od underwear, why shouldn't others be checking me out?
Now...this outdated fashion statement in teens with the jeans worn riding 8" below the waist with their boxers hanging out has got to go...either that or the guys need to grow a pair and wear briefs, or a jock and let people see their stuff.

I have one older brother. we grew up in a lax house and everyone walked around naked most of the time. even now, whenever I go visit my brother, we sleep naked, swim int he pool naked, etc.
when I go visit my parents my dad and I are naked a lot when my step-mother isn't around. She's a bit uncomfortable with it, but dad and I enjoy our naked bonding times when she's out of the house.

I found that most guys in my high school wore briefs until arounbd 8th grade, them A LOT made the shift to boxers. In college there were more that wore briefs and jocks, or nothing at all, and now at my Y, most of the guys wear briefs, boxer briefs or jocks. Very few wear nothing at all.

Not to mention Jock Straps and Nothing Whatsoever. I know several juys who wear jocks exclusively, or freeball 24/7
