Well, it would be ideal if they went nude, as was the custom in ancient Greece. That not being feasible nowadays, a tee shirt, short shorts & sneakers would make perfect all-around casual wear...

Why a shirt or shoes? They should be encouraged to go barefoot and shirtless all summer. We did. It was great.

If they can't be nude...barefoot and shirtless...short cutoff jeans shorts...It would be hotter if the boys (and dads) could be in just loincloths...

Yes, cutoffs are ideal - for boys and girls too. And girls of course should be encouraged to go barefoot as well.

Definitely, short short cutoffs for the girls, barefoot, and little tube or bikini swimsuit tops...since they can't be topless in too many place.
