Wearing Socks or Tights to School

At school we had to wear kneesocks, black tights or trousers.In the summer I was made to wear skirts and white socks although most girls stayed in trousers. At home I mostly wore jeans but when I went out with my parents visiting or to church wore socks until I was almost 17. I had constant fights with my mother about it ending some with my going across her knee and being spanked. Even after more than 10 years I still dont think it was fair. What age should girls be allowed to switch
