Not all the questions are answered right.I guess some people just tick top box then move on. But there are enough replies to see some trends. Most are not a surprise.

1 Two thirds of 18yrs are still at school. Half at 19yrs. 2 Two thirds of teens get punished right thru 19. Grounding more than spanking but almost half spanked even when older. 3 Majority but not all virgins thru 18. (but not 19) 4 Regular boyfriends increase one third to two thirds thru ages. 5 Cars and work increase from about 17 6 About half still wear socks sometimes thru 16 then less thru 19. Is this at school? 7 Not many smoke, not many go to church.

Do these results sound about right in your experience??

Now there are a good number of responses it is interesting to see the results. I guess they are not a big surprise. Moms and daughters both seem to agree that teens can still need discipline and that its moms job to give it. Spankings and Grounding are both common but other punishments much less. Moms and teens answers both seem to line up. Moms think teens can be spanked right to 18 or 19. Teens think it should stop earlier. Perhaps I am strict with my daughter and should lighten up.

I dont agree with you. Most 17s away from home will sometimes stay out all night and give other reasons for a mom to worry. There have to be some rules although suited to their age. This should not stop their social life but if they are out late it should be with permission and I know where they are. If you have rules there must be something if they break them. Breaking curfew earns a grounding. I dont think this is unfair at 17 or even a little older. Like you I dont think teens this old should need spanking. But in some circumstances it might be appropriate and then I would. If they were staying with someone else then if I know and trust the person I see no reason why it should be different. 17 is not fully adult although they should be treated differently than when they were younger.

Maybe its OK if its neccessary for school or something but if it was my daughter I would want her staying with somebody to watch out for her. Certainly she should have a curfew and I dont let her smoke. If she breaks it then grounding is fair. I would have to know the folks very well before I would let them spank her.
