I'm from England, and I can certainly vouch for that! I always change into my slippers when I enter the house. I don't allow shoes to be worn indoors, unless it's an emergency. It was the same when I was growing up, both me and my parents took shoes (and socks usually too) off when they came come and put their slippers on. It was the house rules, and I had to obey, even though sometimes I didn't like it.

And yes, pretty much all my friends were the same when I was growing up too. It was very common here for families to wear slippers in the house, and as far as I know, it still is. Now I have my own house, I still change into slippers when I come home, and I usually take my slippers to friends and family if I'm visiting (although in some cases, I either leave a pair there, or they provide a pair for me). It's just so much more comfortable - and warmer in winter than wearing shoes in the house, not to mention it keeps the floors clean, and the hosts happy!
