What the blue hell.... Just... nevermind.
All presidents get too much blame when things go bad and too much credit when things go well. However, the Iran Hostage Crisis is far from being the only reason Carter lost re-election. He was a bad president. Plain and simple.
"How about the neovel idea of simply not killing people?"
Yeah, there's a great idea. If they didn't kill someone to put themselves on death row, there wouldn't be a problem with the death penalty.
Yeah...well
The 9/11 terrorists gave themselves the death penalty. Done. Anyone that is found to have been involved in the planning and whatnot, but not in charge of anything, should be given life in prison, but not the death penalty. The 7/7 terrorists in London are a different story. They didn't die in the attack, and they should be given the death penalty. However, that is England and for them to decide, so my opinion really means very little.
In a nutshell, I think the death penalty should be used in extreme situations only. I always use Ted Bundy as an example. He deserved the punishment he got. If I were on the jury for Scott Peterson, for instance, I would not have voted for the death penalty. That said, I wouldn't shed tears for the bastard either way.
I realize he is a long shot on electability, but Mitt Romney is an interesting candidate on the Republican side. There is also the governor of one of the Carolinas I believe. Warner? Something like that. A dark horse, but he has recieved some buzz, and from what I've heard he is also very interesting.
Assuming this isn't a joke... Ginger and Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island. Ring a bell? It's a classic "would ya" question.
