The difference between Joe and Ranger: Joe wants Stephanie to change. He wants her to give up her job, change her style, and just be "normal". Ranger helps Stephanie evolve. He doesn't try to change her, he just tries to reinforce behavior that will help her take care of herself more. Joe would get rid of Steph's gun, or is fine with it being in the cookie jar. Ranger takes Steph to the range to practice.
