- Men and Boys' Shorts Lengths and Activity

I would like to see the short swim trunks that were common before 1987 return. I think that speedos are too skimpy and that the swimsuits to the knee are cumbersome to swim in.
I have noticed recently that the sleeves on short sleeve shirts for men are getting shorter. Has anyone else noticed this trend?
I would prefer a return to the shorter swim shorts (mid-thigh or shorter) before 1987. I do not like the look of the knee length swim shorts, and they are harder to swim in. I also do not like the look of the speedos, as they are too skimpy. Does anyone know if that style will ever return?
Weather Considerations
The only reason that I would have required my daughter to wear shorts would have been if it were hot and humid and she were showing signs of heat exhaustion. If she is heat tolerant, then that should not be an issue and it should be her choice.
I have lived in the eastern US and know that it is hot and humid. However, 95 degrees and 90% humidity occurring at the same time is not very likely. I have checked www.weather.com and weather.noaa.gov for numerous cities during the summer. Even places such as New Orleans, Miami, and Charleston generally have temperatures in the 90s and relative humidity from 40-60%. That is still very humid and uncomfortable, however.
I would prefer the shorter than mid-thigh boxer shorts for swimming that were prevalent before 1987. They are short enough to swim in but long enough to be modest.
