It originated in Germany during WWI as an effort to save fuels and energy by not having to use artificial lighting. It was introduced into the US later on, died out, then was reintroduced as an energy saving measure in 1942 (during WWII). It has been regulated by federal law since 1966.
USA & Spain. These were the two major naval battles of the Spanish-American War in 1898.

Hannibal Barca. This is one of the 'classic' battles of all time. Hannibal won the battle, but was forced to retreat from Italy nonetheless.
King Edward VII. Edward VIII was the one who abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson in the 30's. Edward VII was known as Prince Albert or 'Bertie' when he was Prince of Wales. He took the name Edward upon succession to the throne.

It was a long-standing argument about States Rights vs Central Government. It happened to manifest itself through the institution of slavery, but slavery was not the direct cause of the war.
