I remember getting corporal punishment at school as a kid. We would either get hit with a ruler on our hand or with a strap on the bottom. The strappings were usually given in front of the class over your clothes. If you were really bad, the teacher would have you pull down your pants. If the teacher told you to stay after class, it meant you were going to get it on your bare bottom. When you were punished on your hands, the teacher would just call you to the front of the class, have you stick out your hand, and hit you two or three times on each hand. Moving your hand to avoid a hit meant an automatic bare bottom strapping after class in addition to the ruler. That happened to me only once (thank goodness). I don't know what was worse, sitting down with your bottom burning after a strapping or having to write and stuff with your hand stingin from being hit with a wooden ruler. The teachers would punish us without pity. These punishments ended at the end of middle school. That's when corporal punishment in schools was banned where I live.
