Perhaps a little sweaty nutter but it's not too bad and the practicality of the garment easily outweighs that minor inconvenience. What more do you want to know. Happy to oblige if I can.

Smartlad, I have posted a separate topic comment 'What are shortalls' following your comment here. Regarding the zip up the back and going to the bathroom: yes I do have to unzip and zip my son up again but it's not to do with denying him his independence, merely that I think it looks nice.

There are a couple of comments on here about what shortalls actually are. I have always referred to the clothes my son wears as shortalls, though can understand why smartlad likens them to rompers. I guess they are a bit romper like, particularly those with the elasticated legs, but most of them don't have elasticated legs. I did look online for info and found in interesting article at the following fascinating website: histclo.com/style/casual/shorta.html. This does rather prove the point that my son is not wearing shortalls but something else. However, we will continue to refer to them as shortalls at home!

UKmyles, thank you for your support. For your info my son is 14 (which is, I know, rather old for shortalls, hence he is only kept in them at home). With regard to what they look like they, are, as has been said, best described as a sort of one piece jump suit. The legs are short, with a couple of them having elastic at the bottom and the sleeves are short too. They zip up, either the front or back and have belt loops round the waist. Some have pockets. My wife makes them so they can look pretty much however I want. Most are made of nylon and polyester so they are basically easy to wash and dry, and a couple are made of PVC, which sounds weird I know, but looks very cute and can just be wiped clean. My favourite is one which is light blue and has bright red patch pockets with cartoon characters on and a red belt and red zip right up the back. It looks very young and boyish, though my son doesn't like it - but I do, hence this poll.

This is my poll specifically about shortalls, but generally about whether parents should be able to tell their kids what to wear:
