Knee high is not exactly what I meant. I was talking more of athletic socks that come to about mid ankle high with the coloured stripes. These look the best to me.

I wear shorts most of the time. I haven't tried school shorts with grey socks and black shoes, but I agree most athletic young guys look better in shorts with sneakers and white socks. Some people may disagree, but this looks just as smart a school shorts

Our school knee high socks were actually wollen and quite thick so it was quite sweaty and uncomfortable in hot weather. Ankle socks are quite fashionable now and practical. We were not allowed to wear these at school, but it would have helped I think.

I was thinking more of the "tennis style" socks to replace knee high socks. Knee high socks don't help in hot weather, you may as well wear long pants with short socks.

I agree that the pressed shorts dark socks and dress shoes are old fashioned. This is still the uniform used by my old school today. I think schools should be a bit more modern. Whats wrong with say different colours like shorts with the main school colour and maybe some strips or something different?

Also I think the socks and "dress shoes" should go. I think white socks go better with shorts. Maybe the athletic type with strips in the school colours? Also you could have a type of sneaker which would look much better. I think many more guys would wear shorts to school if this was the uniform.

I am sure all the guys who were at school with me would have done this if we had a more modern uniform.
