Just to check - are you saying that besides reactive punishment there are ritual/"maintenance" punishments? And that you specifically time these to coincide with family visits?

It may be weird but I've long since stopped being alarmed by it - as a mother (of two, in effect) who knows the lengths you have to go in your attempts to impose disicpline (i.e teach self-discipline). Also restraint of females is linked to preparing them for a sexually submissive role (which isn't something you can either put off or deny the need for, female-supremacists please note).
