Only if you want. Like you said, you've actually endured this as a real punishment before when you were growing up, so doing it now will have a far different meaning for you.
I did tape my own mouth shut a few times for swearing and snacking after making these polls, using the median punishments poll-takers came up with. They were interesting experiences that did make me think more about when I swear and snack, but like you said, it's different when someone else tapes your mouth shut for you.
It's not the same as having someone else discipline you, but it's still a good way to pass an evening. :)
Did you spend time with your mouth taped shut afterwards? :)
NOTE: The results of the polls as displayed here on misterpoll.com are being disrupted by someone who has been taking the pools repeatedly, giving the same answers (with some minor variances) over and over, and writing similar answers in the long-form answer in the Feelings poll. As an example of how the polls have been manipulated by this person, of the 27 responses in the Swearing poll at the time I ran these analyses, 17 were clearly attributable to this one person. Although I'm capable of deleting these results in the files I download from misterpoll.com (and have done so, leaving only the first response from this person to each poll), I cannot change the results posted here on the misterpoll.com site. As such, none of the tallies listed under "Results" for these polls should be trusted.
The following are results based on median-based interpretation of the poll answers (with duplicates from the one person removed as noted above) based on poll results downloaded August 22. The numbers in parentheses next to each category of infraction are the numbers of valid responses in each category; data for categories with fewer than ten responses should be considered less reliable than those categories with ten or more responses.
SWEARING (11): Three strips of duct tape
1st infraction: One hour, hands bound
2nd infraction: 2-3 hours, mouth stuffed, hands bound, public
3rd infraction: One day, mouth stuffed, hands bound, public

BACKTALKING (15): Three strips of duct tape
1st infraction: One hour, hands bound

--
TALKING TOO MUCH (19): Multiple strips of duct tape

--
SNACKING (4): Muzzle of duct tape

There isn't much variation between the categories, except for smoking, where respondents clearly believe harsher discipline is called for. Eliminating one response from the Smoking poll where the least harsh option was chosen for each question results in the times shooting up to two days for a second infraction and three or more days for a third infraction. Given non-smokers' attitudes about smoking, this shouldn't be a surprise.
I can provide more specific data if requested, but in general, both people who've had their mouths taped shut for an infraction, and people who've taped others' mouths shut for an infraction, are more likely to select shorter punishment times and less harsh options for the other conditions (mouth stuffing, tying the hands, public exposure). People who have been punished this way are likely to be more sympathetic to the plights of others; people who haven't actually implemented the punishment may be letting their fantasies get in the way of their choices.
Here is some additional analysis on the conditions of the punishments that may yield further information as to which infractions are considered the worst by respondents:
Percentage of respondents who advocate for a punishment of a day or longer on a third infraction:
57.1% Smoking
45.4% Swearing
42.1% Talking too much
34.4% Lying
33.3% Talking back
25.0% Being too noisy (tie)
25.0% Snacking (tie)
--
Percentage of respondents who advocate mouth-stuffing at some point:
88.9% Being too noisy
79.3% Lying
76.1% Talking too much
71.4% Smoking
66.7% Talking back
54.5% Swearing
50.0% Snacking
--
Percentage of respondents who advocate hand-tying at some point:
100% Being too noisy
86.7% Talking back
81.8% Swearing
77.8% Lying
75.0% Snacking
73.7% Talking too much
71.4% Smoking
--
Percentage of respondents who advocate public exposure at some point:
81.8% Swearing
75.9% Lying
75.0% Snacking
68.4% Talking too much
67.5% Being too noisy
66.7% Talking back
57.1% Smoking
Finally, averaging out the responses from the Feelings poll yields the most commonly-felt emotions when having one's mouth taped shut:
8.08 Helpless
7.75 Humiliated
7.58 Embarrassed
5.50 Ashamed
4.75 Angry
4.33 Silly
4.00 Nervous
2.83 Sad
I may do further analysis later if I get a significant number of additional valid entries, but having to delete the repeated responses from one person may make that task too bothersome for me to deal with. Please let me know if this analysis is of interest to any of you.
