Awayness: My two youngest (9 and 11) don't get nervous in a "semi-public like a car" at all. In fact, 11 loves to show off. My oldest, 15, is more modest and gets embarrassed far too easily. As a result, I require that she be nude for a longer period - usually requiring that she remain nude until we get to the parking lot. If she's being overly modest I'll require that she dress outside the car.

The day we returned from our honeymoon she went in the bedroom, stripped, and came into the living room with me and the three girls (5, 7, and 11 at the time). We were all pretty surprised (I'd only known her for a month when we were married). She said she believed the body was beautiful and we should all be naked as much as possible. She undressed me right there... It took a few days, but eventually we set a rule that they had to all be nude when at home. The two youngest took to it right away. The oldest one was a little slower - and still gets more embarrassed than the other two.

My girls regularly go to various after school activities - gymnastics, cheerleading, softball, and other things. We nearly always make them change clothes in the car - and get completely nude in the process.

Lea03 - Since you've been topless at home - I encourage you to go the next step and be nude. Maybe try wearing a t shirt and bottomless - then going fully nude. I think you will enjoy it. It took a while for my girls to get used to it, but now they're comfortable nude, even around others.
