I was ashamed, when I went to college, of having to go out during my free time in a school uniform .. I was embarrassed by shorts that were too short and to have sandals and socks, but if they had forced me to wear girl shoes I would have rather gone barefoot.

here with ankle socks would certainly have been better. I remember that I often tried to lower my socks because of the heat, but if I was seen I would immediately hear me say "pull your socks up!" in winter I was happy to have knee socks with my shorts (really very short and I had never worn them in winter before), but in summer I hated them.

my experience dates back to 10 years ago, I only attended college 1 year so I don't think I'm very precise. I remember that girls and boys from other schools also wore open-toed sandals. in winter we had shoes, I guess forcing us to keep socks even with sandals was for hygiene and safety. I had knee-length cotton socks with school colors lighter than winter ones, but on the hottest days it was really uncomfortable to have to keep them at the knee. I think it would have been better to have ankle socks.

we had to have open-toed sandals, they had to have the back strap, it was not allowed otherwise.

I could choose between black Roman sandals, or teva type for example, with velcro closure; always and only with socks.

I had them both, in case one broke, but I would have preferred to wear them without socks.
