I was one of the first boys to get pubic hair, aged 12. I expected underarm hair to come through a year or so afterwards. Instead I was 16. I was very self conscious about it. One of my friends was an early developer, so when we were 10 or 11 he had his hands behind his head once and I saw down the sleeve of his T-shirt and he had an armpit full of hair. I checked mine almost every day after then, expecting to see something any day. Friends who didn't even have any pubic hair until they were almost 14 had underarm hair before they were 15 too. Puberty lasted about a year for them, but over 4 years for me. It felt very unfair!

All males should be circumcised.

There's no scientific correlation there at all. Blaming circumcision for it stops you from finding out the real cause of your poor motor coordination. I wasn't circumcised to begin with and as a child I could barely ride a bike, I would fall off a stationary skateboard, and I could trip over a pebble. Foreskin didn't cure my clumsiness!

Circumcision, however, has all kinds of benefits, from cleanliness and hygiene to sexual benefits for the circumcised man and his partners.

The circumcision rate varies wildly in Europe, though. The UK probably has the highest rate, but even then, it's only around 20-25%. In Scotland it's under 5%, but in London it's just under 50%. Much of the reason the rate has increased in recent years is due to immigration (first and second generation) from countries where circumcision is the norm. It's not because more people are choosing circumcision for their sons. The number of circumcisions carried out for health reasons has also declined. Back when I was growing up in the 80s/90s if you went to the doctor with any problem with your $%!@ they'd probably circumcise you. Now it's more of a last resort.

How much later in life, though?

I've known guys who got circumcised in their teens for health reasons and every single one of them wished they'd been cut younger because once you're over the age of 3 or 4 it takes a lot longer to heal.

The desensitisation you're referring to is not necessarily down to the abrasion against underwear. Up to the age of 5 or so, the foreskin is actually attached to the glans. Infant circumcision involves tearing the foreskin away from the glans before cutting it off, which means the glans is basically all scar tissue. That is what causes the loss of sensation. Older guys don't experience that quite so much.
