Did the groom kick off his shoes too? Was the reception hall floor clean? If it was dirty, did the soles of your socks get prints?
EDIT: A possible alternative for someone who wants his dress shoes off but for whatever reason can't or doesn't want to wander around in his sock feet: black moccasins. I just got a pair of those but have yet to wear them to a formal occasion like wedding; I'll certainly try it for the next one. They're really soft, and should be great for dancing. Only someone very sharp-eyed in low light should notice them, and anyone who does should be complimentary.
Don't worry who may disapprove - that's self-defeating.
Simple: Next time your feet hurt so much you care only about relief, take your shoes off and walk around in your socks. The more you do it, the more comfortable you'll feel, and the less you'll care about others' disapproval. For all you know, you may encourage others who also want to take their shoes off.

Good for you David, being a shoeless leader and exemplar beyond school. Good for the other guys who followed your lead and kicked off their shoes too - now maybe you've REALLY started something that will spread! Your dance with the bride's daughter, both of you shoeless, is especially touching. With time and practice, I'm sure you (and she) will become a much better dancer. When the time comes for a girl friend, you may find one who will find her feet are killing her in many of the same situations as you, and will kick off her shoes anywhere and everywhere, so you will be "sole mates".
