Just a quick message to say how sorry I am to read your post.

It is such a shame that you have had to cancel your holiday as you were both looking forward to it and your birthday as well. Hopefully you will be able to book another break in a few weeks when you are both feeling better.

We survived the heat on board - air conditioning inside and breezes on deck - although most people kept to the shade.

I checked with my parents and Andrew checked his mother and they were all OK but stayed indoors. They were all tired and lethargic. No fires near them but I have seen reports of fires near Dagenham - not that far from Andrew's mother.

Not fair to comment on outfits today but I do hope you both soon recover

I thought I ought to take this opportunity to do a quick post to wish you a very happy birthday next week and I hope that you have a great break with Joel.

I must admit that I am not familiar with Lichfield although I know that there are some historic buildings there. I think some coach tours do visit there but I have not been on one. As you said it is fascinating to explore somewhere new - you often get surprises!

We are in Amsterdam (the outer port) but I am staying on board today. I have been here many times before. Andrew is catching up on some admin. Yes, we have had many "special moments" but it is getting warm on board even with the air conditioning so it might have to be paused for a few days!

Another floral dress - sounds great. I hope that you are keeping cool with record temperatures likely tomorrow!

I am Rebecca and I have been posting on here for a long time . I now work on a cruise ship and today we are in Amsterdam.

I used to attend a girls boarding school and we had a strict uniform of navy blue blazers and skirts. Skirts had to be just below the knee. We had to wear the uniform all day - even when we were doing assignments during the evening.

Emily has encouraged me to wear stockings instead of tights but I am going bare legged at the moment because of the heat.

Good to hear from you again. I am so pleased that Joel's ordination went well and he is now able to perform all services. I imagine it would be hot in clerical robes in heatwaves. I had never thought of a vicar conducting a service in shorts - as you said no one would know!

Not long before you can enjoy your well earned week away. You should be able to relax. I think Stoke is the largest city in Staffordshire. I don't know the area very well either although coaches tend to do a lunch stop in Trentham Gardens near Stoke which is a complex of small specialist shops. I am sure that you will get plenty of treats on your birthday!

We arrived back on Sunday and we are now on a shorter cruise mainly along the English Channel - taking in the Scilly Isles, Channel Islands, Honfluer, Antwerp and Amsterdam. The good weather means no trouble with tendering to the islands. There tends to be a breeze on deck which is quite pleasant in heatwaves.

Andrew is watching the ladies football tournament and mentioned that the football league will be starting earlier this year due to the World Cup in November. As we are close to England there is no problem with signals.

We are due a break in September. I expect we will book something nearer the time. It will also be good to see my parents again although we phone each other regularly and Andrew is in contact with his mother who is now enjoying better health.

Today, white shirt, black knee length skirt, bare legs and black canvas shoes. I have a port talk in a few minutes. Smart casual tonight - I will have to think of a comfy outfit which will also not be too hot in the dining room.

Hi Emily

We are now in Iceland and I have the opportunity of being able to post.

It has been a great cruise - weather very good - no rough seas, plenty of sunshine - great group of "clients" It is a strange sensation having a barbecue on deck at 2.00 a.m. in bright sunshine! I couldn't sleep afterwards.

The scenery is magnificent with snow topped mountains and green valleys. Andrew and I both managed to join a few excursions.

Temperatures were reasonable but you did need a jumper most of the time.

I hope that Joel's big day went well. I am sure that you were proud of him. He has now presided at his first communion and baptism as well. I am sure he will now work to gain the experience he needs before he gets his first parish.

It must soon be end of term for you and the chance to relax and prepare for the next school year. I expect it will be a few weeks before the exam results are announced but I am sure your students will have done well.

We will be sailing back to the UK later tonight and should be able to post longer next time - the signal is not strong here.

I must get a cream floral dress - yours sounds wonderful - neutral stockings and white undies as well!!

For me - black skirt, neutral stockings and white shirt. Black blazer ready to go outside to welcome people back on board.
